Question: Does marijuana help anxiety?
Answer: Many people attempt to reduce their anxiety level through drugs and alcohol — one of the most common being the use of marijuana. The physical experience of smoking marijuana for people can cause a temporary reduction in anxiety and symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). After continued use, though, marijuana can cause other physical, cognitive and psychological problems that can worsen anxiety. Additionally, people often rely on this rather than seeking treatment that can cause longer term change, such as psychotherapy. Click here for more on marijuana and anxiety.
